You Are What You Eat!

Starting the day with breakfast - the most important meal
You are where you are because of what you do. Not what you want to do, but what you really do. Bad habits got me fat. New habits got me back in shape. Only took a few weeks, days actually, and the results are amazing. I lost 157 pounds in 15 months by following two simple rules. Eat Right. Exercise. Another new habit I also developed was finding new encouragement to stay motivated, kind of a variation on Rule #10.  While on my daily lookout for ideas about eating right and exercising right, I ran across Habitspark Diet Foundations. Here is an excerpt from their blog:
Our first big priority is to establish regular meal times and adequate nutrition.  Think of a cow.  Cows eat all day long.  Why? It is so difficult to get nutrients from the food they eat (e.g. grass), that they need to eat throughout the day.  Although you are probably easily meeting your caloric needs, are you meeting your other nutrient needs?  Do you eat enough vegetables?  Enough fruits? Enough whole grains? Enough protein and fat?  If you don’t, no wonder your body is pushing you to eat more!
So, what will you have for breakfast tomorrow? Send me an email.

It's Valentine's Day. Did you pick up something for your sweetheart? Not yet you say? Better get something. Right after you have breakfast!

Eat Right Is Simple. Rule #2 Is The Hard One

Trust me, I look way better than this now. Cheryl snapped it three+ months ago. Today, twelve pounds fewer, one pant size less. Almost two pant sizes. Tomorrow Cheryl will take me shopping and play Ken Doll with me, which is the kind of shopping trip both of us enjoy.

When I started this journey my waist size was 60 inches. Tomorrow we are going to look for size 34. Yep, that's what I said. but you need to know that it's all rule #2, the hard one. You can lose weight with rule #1 - Eat Right - but you have to exercise if you want to lose the fat and the inches AND still look good. Simple does not mean easy. Au contraire. This is work. And many days I am not "in the mood" to work that hard, but I do it. In the picture to the left, I am pushing about 7 mph on my AFG trainer - usually 20 to 30 minutes, four or five times a week.

Today Cheryl and I are pleased to announce that AFG has agreed to sponsor our page. We are even more excited for you to have the opportunity to use the same equipment that BOTH of us use. Check them out. And until your unit arrives, start walking - that's what I did.

Discover the difference the right exercise equipment can make. Get Free Shipping and inside delivery on ellipticals, treadmills and exercise bikes from AFG, a $150 value.CoolTan ShirtsCoolTan Tan Through Clothing and Swimwear

PS: We are still sifting through the several hundred photos we took since the first of the year, including the ones from her birthday night-out yesterday. We promise to post a couple of them so you can see WHY we use the AFG equipment - we really like the way the other one looks. Be sure to eat good while eating right.

Before I Go to Sleep... one more thing.

http://www.journeygym.com/catalog/
A little over a year ago a friend and I met for a late night dinner. He was in town on other business and asked if I would join him. Knowing that he would probably not recognize me with a body 35 pounds lighter, I agreed to meet him in the lobby of his hotel at 8 p.m. He agreed and I made the drive to be there early and sit in the lobby.

My guess was correct - he walked past me about three times before he said, "Doc, is that you?" We will save the rest of that story for another day, but during dinner conversation about how I had lost weight, he asked if I had every heard of Journey Gym. Fast forward to last week, when another friend calls to ask my opinion on something about marketing, and toward the end asks if I had ever heard  of Journey Gym. My reply surprised her; it was the third time. What was the second? When I interview for my current position with my awesome company I learned that they were that very day finishing off their small fitness center for any employee to use and one of the pieces of equipment was something called "JourneyGym."

Fast forward one more week to the same friend I met a year ago. He said that he had been following my journey to a new life during 2011. (Be sure to read that to understand what he asked me next?)

"Would you consider being a spokesman, or maybe talking about us on your blog, because you obviously understand the commitment and the hard work it takes to make your journey?"

Now it's time to practice rule #3 - get some sleep. But, trust me when I say, it's not about the rules, it's about the journey. Cheryl and I are excited about ours.

PS: Tomorrow is her birthday. Shhh. Don't say anything, but tomorrow's blog is all about how special SHE is and what she has accomplished.

PPS:
Hear what John Friess, founder, has to say, and then get some sleep!
And don't forget to drink 8 glasses of water a day.

Cheryl, WoW, Laptops, Skype and Weight Loss

"What do you mean Cheryl won't let you buy Skype credits?
Cheryl plays World of Warcraft. Really good at it, too. She's some high this or that and a guild master of something or other.

I want Skype, and a Harley, and a lesson in Photoshop. And, a pony, too. Long term what I really want is for you to read and reflect on my blog posts and leave me comments and we can have some great discussions, but, did I mention that Cheryl wants a new computer (back to the WoW thing)?

I'll settle for Skype and the new computer, but you have to do your part. Send me a penny! Well, not you personally. Just visit the blog every day, click on one of the ads down there or over there on the side and Google will send me a penny on your behalf. Isn't that cool? I need you to do it every day. And ask your friends to do it every day. Why?

So, to explain why I spent money on Skype, I told her it was so she could have a new computer. She didn't really believe me, but before she could say anything, I slipped away to my laptop and signed up for adSense, because I remembered that once upon a time Google told me that they would pay for Cheryl's new ultimate gaming device with lighted keyboard and Turtle Beach headsets and this really cool mouse for serious gamers. Well, maybe it wasn't them. Could have been one of my friends on Google+. Or FB. Maybe it was Facebook, not sure, but back to what your part is in my plan to pay for my Skype Acount (sorry, honey, I meant my plan to get your new laptop!)

WoW, I didn't know she could hear me typing this.

Anyway. I want the Harley. She wants the laptop! And you know you want that thing they are advertising over there. Might even be for a free bottle of sunscreen if you try their weight loss program. Or their how to get rich thing. Heck, you don't have to buy anything. Just click on it so I can get the penny!  :) And I need you to do it everyday, because last week when I told Cheryl I would have her new laptop by today, I thought I would have had earned more than the $0.72.

Now for Free Skype internet calls and cheap calls to phones online - Skype
If you have a blog and want a penny (thanks for yours BTW), learn how you can a penny from me by reading https://www.google.com/adsense/www/en_US/tour/.

And, thanks for your penny!  :)
Now, leave me a comment or two!!

PS: The picture above was taken by the aforementioned Guild Master, and all around wonderful wife, Cheryl DeVore. And we were really talking about hunting alligators. Might be a post for another day.  :)

But, trust me on the sun screen!

Quiet Sunday or Quite a Sunday? (or why I need to exit here and play Words with Friends instead of talking about weight loss) (Doc, don't forget the sunscreen!)

Good morning, friends!
As is usual, each morning I put water in the Bunn, go comb my hair and then head back to the patio grabbing a cup of coffee from the kitchen on the way.

And then I do important stuff. You know what I mean, don't you! Checking Twitter, FB, G+, and all of those, and then get to the really important things, like "Words with Friends." I tell everyone I am networking. But you know that I am really just having a fun diversion before doing the real work of the day. Like blogging about sunscreen!  :)

Thank goodness for the built-in spell-checker; Chrome makes up for my caffeine deprived mental state as I type some really important messages (also known as Facebook posts, texting with Google Voice, and Smart alec response on G+). Makes it easier to get that out of the way so that I can go play "Words with Friends."

Smiley face. LOL.

Gotta' go! Got some networking to do! Have fun today!

PS: Reminder to self; eat right and exercise today because that's why you are able to sit on the patio. Oh, and don't forget the sunscreen!

PS: Reminder to you. Relax today and enjoy some of my "witty" comments. My gift to you on this Sunday morning! And, when you head to Sawgrass Recreation Park to ride an air boat, don't forget the sun screen.

2011 - A Journey to a New Life

Doc Before and After: 2009 and three weeks ago in December, 2012
Posted by Picasa
There will be more in this series, which will be apparent as 2012 moves toward yet another year. The journey has many stories, but one, of which I am second most fond, is losing 153 pounds. Yes, that is me on the left, taken in May of 2008 in Tampa, Florida. Cheryl and I lived in St. Louis at the time, and I was in complete denial about many things. One day my bride said something that totally awakened me to reality. That's what usually has to happen, because, despite my public persona, I am just an average guy. Not super smart. Not overly handsome. Not overly ugly. Pretty smart, but I never think of myself as the smartest guy in the room. Big ego? Yes! But, I never told anyone, because I did not (at the time) really understand the true meaning of humble.

On that day that started this trip to a healthy (and longer) life, my wife might as well have taken a dagger and stabbed me in the heart. But being an optimistic person, I said, "well, now what Doc?"

The 'what' is that I decided to change. Everything. I had some unexpected help making that easier to accomplish; however, I knew that I could trust God to work things out. He did (and that's a whole different series that will be forthcoming when I talk about the most personal, intimate, powerful, worshipful encounter ever experienced by this "old Wyoming cowboy."

For now, let me just say that in addition to the goal I set for weight loss, I also set some goals for what I would do after I reached the next starting line. For James Taylor, who commented on yesterday's post, let me just add that I promise to answer your question. Keep watching here for how I did it, and what some of those other goals are, one of which you are particpating in as you read this. But, if you can't wait, hit the email link over there on the side somewhere, and I'll give you the Cliff Notes summary immediately. For the real good stuff, please be patient. As Hercule Poirot would say - "All will be revealed."

Want a hint about the plan that is to be revealed? 2012 will be the worst year of the rest of your life.
