The first winter storm of the 2006 season in the St. Louis area was more ice than snow, although there was lots of snow (by St. Louis standards - about 6 inches). But it was the ice that caused the problems. About half a million people in Illinois and Missouri lost power, many for days. This picture was taken 3 days after the storm (Sun, Dec 3, 2006) near the Jefferson County Library, Arnold Branch. There were still more than 250,000 without power the day this was taken, and as I blog this today, there are still 80,000 without power. Fortunately, we were never in that number.
