More Ice than Snow

The first winter storm of the 2006 season in the St. Louis area was more ice than snow, although there was lots of snow (by St. Louis standards - about 6 inches). But it was the ice that caused the problems. About half a million people in Illinois and Missouri lost power, many for days. This picture was taken 3 days after the storm (Sun, Dec 3, 2006) near the Jefferson County Library, Arnold Branch. There were still more than 250,000 without power the day this was taken, and as I blog this today, there are still 80,000 without power. Fortunately, we were never in that number. Posted by Picasa
